Valve has announced the launch of Steam Deck in Japan and several other Asian territories, bringing its laptop closer to Australia.
Steam Deck can now be booked in Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and Hong Kong. The company that handles reservations in all four countries is Komodo, Valve’s authorized distributor in the region. There’s no confirmed release date yet, though Valve notes that the devices booked today will be delivered later this year. However, this is a major step towards introducing Steam Deck to markets outside North America, the UK and Europe.
The news was announced via Steam Deck’s official social media channels.

The news confirms that Valve will partner with a vetted local distributor when Steam Deck launches in a new region. It’s safe to say that recurring partner EB Games will have a tap on the shoulder when Australia’s turn finally arrives. Until then, we’ll still be dependent on gray imports (and frankly, today’s news might make that process that much simpler).
The device has proven to be a huge hit in Western markets, and it’s easy to imagine Japan embracing Steam Deck as well. The broader Asia Pacific region will be watching with interest to see what the uptake will be in these regions. With enough steam behind it, we hope it won’t be long before Valve expands its range again.
